VASAP Components:
Attitudes about drinking and driving are an important factor in the socialization process; therefore, societal norms represent an ever-important influence in the general deterrent approach for reducing the incidence of drunken driving. Since the inception of the Central Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (1975), the Program has consistently focused on changing attitudes by a continuation of, and support for the following VASAP components:
Law Enforcement - Providing training and equipment to area law enforcement agencies for DUI detection and apprehension techniques.
Case Management - Providing probationary/evaluation services for those referred by the Courts.
Education/Treatment - Providing or referring participants to appropriate community agencies for services in hopes that attitudes and behavior might be modified, resulting in fewer DUI crashes and deaths.
Public Information - Providing a prevention program to encourage the citizens of Central Virginia to take an active roll in combating drunken driving.
